Gem is a writer and story consultant for TV and Film. They have recently written for and series story consulted on new Channel 4 YA drama Dreamers, and have now returned to write for BBC One’s EastEnders, having previously written for Casualty and Channel 4’s Hollyoaks. They have original drama series in development with BBC Studios Productions and Roughtcut TV, and previously with Saffron Cherry Productions and Consec Industries. They have been commissioned for book to screen YA film and television drama adaptations and also participated in the Stolen Picture YA Incubator project working on the development of two drama series. In addition, they were the winner of the Soho Young Writers’ Award in 2013 for their play In Your Image.
After gaining a first class degree in Creative Writing and Drama at The University of Northampton Gem went on to focus on TV Fiction Writing for their masters at Glasgow Caledonian University which was supported with a scholarship from the Warner Bros. Creative Talent programme. In addition to pursuing their own projects, they have since worked on Holby City in the story department before moving on to EastEnders working as a storyliner for just over two years and then joining the writing team.
